Recreational Mermaid Instructor (RMI)
First two days of the course will be theory sessions and mock-teaching, last two days will be for examination. Each RMI/ MI Applicant will be examined by two Mermaid Instructor Trainers (MIT) to safeguard the highest teaching standards.

Pre-requisite(s)
- MFI M1 Certificate Holder to join the RMI Course
- Upon successful completion and examination of the course, you will be certified to teach MFI M and J1 courses
- If instructors want to upgrade as MI, passing of M2 is needed

Content: 2 days
2 Theory Sessions: MFI Instructor standards and guidelines, structure of MFI, review of MFI M & M1 course contents and examination criteria, safety and quality control of teaching, efficient course demonstration and teaching skills, classroom setting and management, mock-teaching of Theory Session.
1 Studio Session: Review of M and M1 studio session course contents, demonstration of proper stretching and postures, mock-teaching of Studio Session.
3 Pool Sessions: Demonstration and practice of underwater skills, review of M & M1 underwater course contents, class safety and rescue, mock-teaching of Pool Sessions.
Examination: 2 days
2 Theory Sessions: Teaching assessment, individual business plan presentation, self-introduction and recital of Ocean Pledge, two written exams (teaching plan & MFI knowledge)
1 Studio Session: Skills assessment, teaching assessment
2 Pool Sessions: Skills assessment, teaching assessment, class safety and rescue
Mermaid Instructor (MI)
Upon successful application and examination, you will be certified to teach MFI M0, M1 & M2.

2023 MFI Mermaid Instructor Crossover Scheme
Details
Overview
- Below qualified instructors are eligible for crossover application:
- AIDA Freediving Instructor;
- Molchanovs Freediving Instructor;
- RAID Freediving Instructor;
- PADI Freediving/ Mermaid Instructor;
- SSI Freediving/ Mermaid Instructor.
* Activated and qualified instructor status needed
- The above candidates can directly enrol for RMI or MI Instructor Exam, without attending M1/ M2/ Instructor Course.
- With recommendation letter from a qualified MFI Mermaid Development Centre or Headquarters invited candidates.
- If instructors would like to advance to a higher level than RMI/ MI, required number of certificates needs to be fulfilled. If candidate would like to apply MIT in near future, he/she would be placed on 1 Year of Probation Period after discussion with Headquarters.
- All crossover application can only be proceeded by MMIT.

- More than one year of experience in teaching Freediving/ Mermaiding
- Over 50+ issued student certificates
- Upholds valid insurance & first aid proof
- Personal Underwater Skills Assessment via Video by MMIT
- RMI: M1 Advanced Mermaid Routines
- MI: M1 & M2 Master Mermaid Routines

Application Costs & Fees
- Period: Valid until 31st March 2024
- Mermaid Instructor Exam: USD499
- MFI Instructor Certificate Fee: USD99
- Candidate will be responsible for MMIT and his/ her own venue or basic costs, such pool entry fees.
Remark: in any case of fails, candidates can only retake once. If not, candidate can only go through with regular instructor procedures in upcoming 3 years.

Master Mermaid Instructor (MMI)
Upon successful application and examination, you will be certified to teach MFI M2.

Pre-requisites:
- Teaching Experience: in accumulation, you need issue at least
- [A] 30pcs M1 Certificates OR
- [B] 20pcs M1 Certificates + 40pcs M Certificates before you apply
- Recommendation Letter from a Mermaid Development Center or Mermaid Instructor Trainer
Examination
- Passing all M2 Examinations at an 80% score or above
- Teaching assessment for M2 course contents
Mermaid Instructor Trainer (MIT)
Advancement is by application and upon review of MFI Education Committee. Upon successful application, you will be certified to teach all student levels and certify any instructor levels beneath MIT level.

Pre-requisites
- Teaching Experience: in accumulation, you need issue at least 50pcs M1 Certificates + 10pcs M2 Certificates before you apply
- Owns a Mermaid Development Center or being authorized by a MDC as its representative
Requirements & Examination:
- To ensure the highest integrity of our Mermaid Instructors, qualified MIT can only hold the qualification of MIT under MFI, to show commitment that MFI is your core mermaid teaching certification system
- Completion of MIT Training Course
- Teaching assessment for RMI/MI course contents
- Practicum:
- After the completion of above, you will be appointed as MFI’s Mermaid Instructor Trainer Trainee (MITT). As the MITT, you will have to conduct your first RMI/MI Course Practicum, with at least 3 RMI/ MI applicants, under the supervision of another MIT in one year’s time
Master Mermaid Instructor Trainer (MMIT)
Appointment is by application and upon review of MFI Education Committee, applicant needs to have at least 2-years of experience as a Mermaid Instructor Trainer (MIT). After review, you will be qualified to teach and certify all MFI courses.
MERMAID SPECIALITY INSTRUCTOR (MSI)
Ocean Mermaid Instructor (OI)
Any mermaid instructors can apply to become an Ocean Mermaid Instructor. Upon successful examination, you will be certified to teach Ocean Mermaid (O1) at MI level, and both Ocean Mermaid and Advanced Ocean Mermaid (O1 & O2) at MMI Level.

- Requirements:
- Completion of Ocean Mermaid Instructor Course, OR
- Upholds equivalent diving certifications of the below:
- Intermediate Freediver and Intermediate Scuba Diver, OR
- Freediving Instructor and Elementary Scuba Diver, OR
- Scuba Diving Instructor and Elementary Freediver.
- Passing of required written exam.
